Today, John Shiers is a Pioneer Sales Representative — but he’s always been a resident of Buffalo County. Growing up in the Gibbon area, John saw the enormous importance that agriculture has, not just for Nebraska but for the world.
That respect for farming influenced John to study at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and earn his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. Soon after graduating in 1991, he put that knowledge to work selling seeds — and John has never looked back.
“The greatest joy is selling the very best hybrids and varieties to your neighbors and friends,” John says. “I love the challenge of getting the best product on each acre.”
The Shiers Seeds team knows that much has changed in agriculture since 1991, which is why staying on top of the latest technologies and trends is a big part of their jobs. Staying available to help area farmers is, too.
“During the planting season, we operate on a tough work schedule,” John says. “We must be available to deliver seed when needed. We want everyone to be able to count on us being there for them.”
The customers who count on Shiers Seeds are neighbors and friends, which is why the Shiers team supports them and their families beyond the field. Active involvement in FFA and 4-H activities helps Shiers Seeds nurture the next generation of farmers and build relationships in the future that are as important as those built in the past.
